A project that is on hold while I do NaNoWriMo ( http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/user/401078 ), but I plan on taking it back up come December. I have this huge Art History textbook, and I am going to work my way through it - time-traveling, as it were - and copying as much as I can. That way, not only do I get a refresher course in the art of the past, but it'll also force me to /draw./

Lonely Goose by Tym

A Canadian goose from another era awaits his friend...poor thing, seems he's been stood up. Done at this year's FC (Further Confusion) Picnic. There was a flock of Canadian geese there and this idea just popped into my head (although, originally he was in pink pinstripes and a straw skimmer hat a'la Renoir's "Luncheon of the Boating Party"). I'm quite proud of it...doesn't it just look like something from "Rupert"?

A little sketch, done to refine a portion of a design for a pierce-work lantern I was never destined to finish. Nevertheless, I'm happy with this: emotions are one of my sticking-points, and I believe I've nailed it in this one. Plus, what fur wouldn't enjoy catching autumn leaves on his or her snout? Sometimes, it's fun to just have fun. (once again, the date is an estimate)

European Goat by Tym

One of the few sketches I'd managed to do on my trip to Europe this past summer, I'd been inspired by the wonders I had seen at the Uffizi Gallery in Firenze, as well as the Tuscan landscape rolling by the bus's windows. In particular, this is an homage to da Vinci's "Mona Lisa" (particularly in the landscaped background - note that the horizon lines don't match?) as well as Piero della Francesca's portrait of Federico da Montefeltro ( http://www.mazzaforte.com/Urbino.html )

Beardsley-esque by Tym

An admittedly-under-used character of mine, one Gorey Edward, an Afghan hound. As some of you may have guessed, his name derives from the dour artist Edward Gorey (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_Gorey ), while the style of this piece is - admittedly - a close rendition of an Aubrey Beardsley design.

Art History by Tym

Done as a sort of homage/gift for my first Art History teacher. She had opened my eyes to the fact that there are far more artists out there than da Vinci, and awakened me to the use of symbolism in art. Mucha and Vermeer's "Art of Painting" are my obvious inspirations (indeed, I am - or rather, Tym is - dressed as Clio, the Muse of History). As for technique, this was drawn in ink on the obverse of a sheet of vellum, then colored with Prismacolor markers on the reverse. (I'm afraid the date - below - is merely an estimate)
